Wolverhampton Wanderers, or Wolves for short, have won the top tier of English football on 3 occasions. They have also won 4 FA Cups and 1 League cup in their history. Wolves have played in European competitions, however have never reached any finals.

Founded in 1877 as St Luke’s FC, by 2 members of St Luke’s Church School, who had been presented with a football from their school headmaster. Then in 1879, St Luke’s merged with the football section of a local cricket club called Blakenhall Wanderers, therefore forming Wolverhampton Wanderers.

In 1888, Wolves were 1 of 12 founder members of the Football League, due to their professional status. Wolves finished 3rd in the 1st season of the Football League and reached the FA Cup Final. They also moved to their ground Molineux at the end of the season, where they still play to this day.

Wolves most successful decade was the 1950’s. Winning the First Division for the 1st time in 1953/54, they also went on to win it in 1957/58 and 1958/59. Wolves also won their 4th FA Cup in 1959/60 adding to the 3 they won in 1892/93, 1907/07 and 1948/59. Wolves have won 2 Football League Cups too, winning them in 1973/74 and 1979/80.

Fact: Since the creation of the Football League in 1888, Wolves sit 4th on the list in number of points accumulated across all divisions, with only Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal.
